(NBC): The National Bank of Cambodia officially launched the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy for Cambodian Banking Sector, under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, and Ms. Elvira Morella, Director of Advisory and Economic Research for the East Asia and Pacific Region at the International Finance Corporation, on 27 April 2026 in Phnom Penh.

The introduction of this taxonomy aims to enhance transparency and consistency in the implementation of sustainable finance and to mitigate the risk of greenwashing within the financial sector. In the initial phase, the taxonomy focuses on three priority sectors, namely energy, transport, and construction. This framework will support banking and financial institutions in classifying green projects and activities, thereby fostering an enabling environment for sustainable, transparent, and credible green investment in Cambodia.

The taxonomy provides a standardized classification system to assist financial institutions, investors, and other market participants in identifying economic activities that contribute to environmental sustainability and sustainable development.
